Day 87: alternative rope braids (II)

These are rope braids! Trust me when I say they are rope braids; I know what I’ve done. To be more precise I have to say they are four rope braids. And there are few others little details that lead to this intriguing look. First of all the hair should be silky and slippery and most important tangles-free. The second step is to separate the hair into four even sections to make four braids. The third step is making the braids… For each braid, take one section, split it into two strands – one strand must be thick and the other strand super-skinny – and start rope braiding as normal. As you twist the thicker strand, gently pull some hair to create the loops. Secure each braid with silicon hair tie. What I love most about this hairstyle is that it gives an out-of-ordinary texture to the hair – and, of course, volume – and you don’t have to use heat, or styling products and you don’t have to sleep with your hair braided. So it is a hairstyle that doesn’t need planning ahead and it is hair-friendly. You can wear your hair like this, because the four braids are not obvious. Or you can make a ponytail… Or you can loosely braid the braids (read here how you can make a flat braid using 4 strands) and secure the ends underneath for an effortless chic.

Day 28: braided ponytail

braided ponytailFor this hairstyle start with a high ponytail; don’t forget to take a small section of hair and cover the hair elastic.

Then divide the ponytail into 3 equal sections and start braiding. Secure at the end with another hair elastic and again take a small section of hair and cover this one too.

And that’s all!

You may skip the covering of the hair elastic part if you use beautiful ponytail holders.

Day 18: biker’s “medieval” braid

biker's "medieval" braidI’ve seen this technique of styling the hair in medieval paintings and science-fiction movies.

Of course, those hairstyles were more elaborate. This is just a high ponytail with 3 meters of ribbon wrapped around down the length. You just tide the middle of the ribbon around the ponytail holder and then crisscross the ribbon in front and back at even distances.

I don’t know the proper name of this hairstyle. I’ve named it “biker’s medieval braid” because it looks medieval and is very much like the biker’s braid.
