Guess what! This is a 3 strands regular braid too! It doesn’t look like one, does it?
It is very simple. All you have to do is to hold tight one strand (usually the middle one) and braid the others loose. An even easier way to get the look is to make a loose normal braid, then hold one strand and push the others up.
On hair with long layers, I would recommend taking the middle strand from the top, and the side strands from the bottom.
This is how a regular braid looks like when one strand is much thicker than the others. It definitely doesn’t look like the classic braid. It looks more fresh and dynamic.
It is an unusual braid, so if you feel uncomfortable, you can always make a bun. Perhaps the bun will also look strange, but the concept of bun is classical.
The trickiest aspect on regular braids is dividing the hair into three equal strands.
So, why not do the opposite? You can see in the left photo how a regular braid looks like when one strand is much thinner than the others. It looks unusual… and interesting.
Anyway, if this type of braid seems too strange, you can easily turn this into a bun. Take the two braids and make two simple knots, tuck the ends under and secure with bobby pins or hair pins wherever is needed to hold everything in place.
