Day 63: 4 strands round braids

You can also make round braids with 4 strands. This kind of braid is also known as “boxer braid”; probably it is considered to be more masculine… I don’t know… and I don’t really care…

It is a beautiful braid and it looks great when you make a high ponytail, make this round braid and secure the ends. But because I know four different ways to make this type of braid, I made 4 round braids with 4 strands. As you can see, they look exactly the same. I couldn’t tell what technique I used for each braid, you just have to believe me each one is different, or even better, don’t believe me and try for yourself.

1. first technique – you part your hair into 4 even strands and you take one outer strand and place it over the next two strands (the middle ones), then with the same strand, you change direction and place it under the previous strand; then you take the other outer strand and place it over the previous two strands, change direction and place it under the next strand and repeat from the start.

2. second technique – this is very similar with the first technique – so take the outer strand and place it this time under the next two strands, change direction and place the same strand over the previous strand, then take the other outer strand, place it under the previous two strands, change direction and place it over the next and repeat…

3. third technique – this is slightly different; it starts the same – the outer strand goes over the next two and you leave it there, then you take the outer strand that took its place and put it under the next strand. Do the same for the other side; take the outer strand, place it over the two previous strands, take the new outer strand and place it under one previous strand and repeat from the start.

4. fourth technique – this is similar with the third one – the outer strand goes under the next two strands, then the strand that took its place goes over one strand; then go to the other side and take that outer strand and place it under the previous two and the new outer strand over one strand and repeat from the start.

I hope this makes some kind of sense… And I hope the sketches are helpful enough. If only one technique is clear enough, it’s all that you need.

You can make one braid or you can make four braids and then braid them together. This will make your hair appear shockingly shorter; especially if you have long layers. But that’s a good thing in those moments when you feel like cutting your hair and you know that if you do that in the next two seconds you’ll want to glue your hair back.

Been there! Done that!
